Productivity gains heralded with HG6000TX

In early 2007, Peter Vicary was looking for a new business to run.

Having just arranged for two of his sons to take over his oil-blending business, and his third son having taken control of a concreting operation a few years earlier, Mr Vicary wanted a new challenge and tree clearing was it.

Peter Vicary has been in business all his life. His sons took over the previous businesses to give them an opportunity to make their own way in life and entered into the tree business after talking to a friend.

Mr Vicary made further inquiries and took the plunge, establishing Vicary Land Clearing Solutions Pty Ltd and buying a second-hand Vermeer HG525 grinder to turn tree trunks into mulch. He said the business, at Richmond, north-west of Sydney, had been doing well but was now doing even better after he upgraded to a Vermeer HG6000TX grinder.

Mr Vicary employs one offsider and works mainly on residential subdivisions, felling trees with an excavator before using the HG6000TX to mulch them.
While he was happy enough with the old HG525, the new Vermeer HG6000TX has considerable advantages. The self-propelled track grinder is designed to be highly manoeuvrable, especially on uneven sites. Its tracks provide increased grip on unstable ground, allowing it to access remote areas, cross creeks and ditches, and travel on soft, sandy or wet soils.

The opportunity came along to step up to a new HG6000TX on tracks, which has heap of benefits over the old one on wheels,

The new one is so much more versatile. I’m very happy with it. Being on tracks is a big advantage. You can get around work sites so much easier. Vermeer has also made a few improvements in the design that make it a better machine,

The new grinder has 20% more horsepower than the previous one. With that, and other improvements Vermeer has made, I think it provides about 30%-40% more capacity, and that’s fairly significant.
